Why Use Gospel Tracts?
Gospel tracts and literature have advantages other forms of outreach don't.
1. Anyone can use them.
From age 2 to 102, any healthy person can place a tract in someone else's hands or in a place it is sure to be found. It takes no special training or education.
2. Tracts can be used without fear.
Tracts require no conversation (though can generate such.) So, many of the fears of evangelism most Christians experience are bypassed with tracts.
3. A tract never lost its temper or became irritated.
Tracts are emotionless and do not experience the pain of rejection or the difficulties of confrontation. In many ways, these things are not a factor in tract ministry.
4. Tracts can end up anywhere.
One of the most important facts about tracts is that tracts have the potential to arrive anywhere. You may not be able to sit across from a governor's desk or an emperor's throne, but literature has every possibility of ending up in such a place. Even if you hand a tract to someone who never looks it over, the possibility is there that they might leave it accesible to someone else.
5. Tracts have unlimited patience.
A tract can sit unobserved for decades only to be picked up and read at the right time by the right person.
6. Tracts work for next to nothing.
Sending missionaries and Christian workers around the globe costs unbelievable amounts of money. At pennies apiece, tracts are able to spread around the world in an economical way that doesn't drain the resources of the Church.
7. Tracts can be used with, or without, conversation.
For those that desire a dialogue about spiritual issues, tracts can be a great tool. "Do you have one of these yet?" "No, what's that?" "It's a card that says,'Would you sell your eyeballs for a million bucks. What'ya think?" But, for those that are too uncomfortable talking to others, it can be as simple as handing it over and walking away.
8. Most importantly, tracts are effective.
James 1:21 says to "humbly accept the Word, plated in you, that can save you." and 1 Peter 1:23 says that being born-again is accomplished through the "living and enduring Word of God." If it is the Word of God that changes a life, what could be more effective thatn that message in written form? People across the world have been drawn to Jesus and come to follow Him through tracts and Christian literature.
